No referral is needed. Families are welcome to schedule directly with Sanborn Orthodontics, we work well with our area dentists. While many of our patients are referred by their dentist or a friend, others simply reach out on their own. We're always happy to help you take the next step when the time feels right.

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children have their first orthodontic evaluation around age 7. At Sanborn Orthodontics, this early visit helps us understand how your child’s smile is developing and determine whether monitoring or early guidance would be helpful. In many cases, no treatment is needed right away — just reassurance and a plan.

Your first visit is complimentary and designed to feel relaxed, informative, and supportive. We’ll take the time to evaluate your smile, taking and reviewing images and records as needed, and talk through what we’re seeing in clear, everyday language. Most importantly, we’ll answer your questions and help you understand next steps — without pressure or financial commitment. Dr. Sanborn believes that information should be free and patients should have all their questions answered prior to any financial commitment being made. If treatment is recommended and your schedule is flexible, often we are able to save you a trip to the office by and getting started on the same day.

Most consultations take about an hour. This allows plenty of time for a thorough evaluation and an unrushed conversation. Families often tell us they appreciate having the space to ask questions and feel confident about their decisions before moving forward. Many families prefer to combine consultation times for multiple family members and we are glad to so. Two consultations typically take one and a half hours, depending on the patient's dental situation.
